This is so fascinating: employers are paying MORE for new employees rather than give existing employees raises.
I've long talked about how you owe it to your boss to talk openly about the issues that are going to make you leave. It's not fair to blindside someone who would have fixed the issues, if only they'd known.
I still think that's crucial- and here's MORE evidence that losing an existing employee is an expensive proposition. Even in a job market that's perceived as being terrible, you should still ask for that raise.
