My word for 2023 is ADVENTURE.

My parents tell these incredible stories about traveling, taking risks, and making big leaps of faith. Some of them worked out well, many are funny stories that came out of everything going wrong at once.

My mother chatted up the Latin teacher at my high school at a cocktail party and learned she would be studying Latin at the Vatican over the summer and was looking for a travel partner who could watch her daughter while she was in class. She packed up my brother and I for a summer in Italy that included a private audience with the Pope.

My father inadvertenly cornered the grain market when his brokerage firm traded at the Kansas City Board of Trade- open outcry pits, no less. And when officials asked him what he was going to do, take delivery of all the corn in Iowa? My father replied, "well, that's one of my options."

Their stories span decades and continents- and, for the record, my parents haven't slowed down. They have trips to Israel, Jordan, and Ghana planned for 2023.

Over the past 3 years, my biggest adventures involved Zoom meetings and whatever circle of hell includes chaffeuring kids to extracurricular activities. I have *incredible* friends, and a remote-first company. I should be having adventures- BIG ones.

Watch out, 2023. I'm coming for you.

Do you have a word or mantra for 2023? What are you focusing on this year?????
