Salary Negotiation Rule #3 Don't give a range. (3/5)

Remember: every potential employer wants to keep their costs as low as possible. And unfortunately for them, employees are the highest cost. So, what happens when you offer a salary range instead of naming a number? The employer’s going to offer the lowest end of that range.

They may have been planning to give you more, but you just told them you’d take less.

Avoid giving a range for your salary at all costs. If you’ve followed these steps so far, you have your number and that number likely makes you queasy because it’s big. But you won’t get it if you don’t ask for it.

Your primary focus should be getting the cash number right. Everything is negotiable, from salary to benefits, but money is the most important thing.
